Devin Lloyd – AFC Defensive Player of the Month
Myles Garrett was honored as AFC Defensive Player of the Month for November after leading his league in sacks and tackles for loss. Garrett continued his stellar play against Kansas City Chiefs by sacking quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the third quarter.
Furthermore, Garrett intercepted Mahomes’ pass intended for JuJu Smith-Schuster and returned it 99 yards for an incredible interception return – which set an NFL record! This marked Myles’ first touchdown return ever!
Mahomes struggled in the red zone, which contributed heavily to Jaguars’ victory. He was sacked twice while having one interception thrown his way; nonetheless he still completed 318 yards while failing to convert on many of his chances inside its confines.
The Jaguars defense was led by an aggressive front four, highlighted by two Pro Bowl selections in Calais Campbell and Davon Godwin, along with Maurice Hurst – their rookie safety who led with five tackles and two pass breakups – making an impactful first impression as one of his teammates.
Lloyd was instrumental in turning around the second half. He stepped in front of Mahomes’ passing window and grabbed the ball, throwing it back across to Ray Davis whose teammates recovered it as soon as it went loose.
Late in the game, the Jaguars defense held off an attempted comeback from Kansas City Chiefs to win 31-28. Their final play was memorable: defensive back Trevor Lawrence fell, got up, ran forward one yard for a touchdown then was applauded and celebrated by teammates when leaving the field.
The Jaguars’ win was due to a systemic shift that disrupted Mahomes’ rhythm. Their aggressive defense forced him into uncharacteristic errors that was unexpected of him.
Jacksonville is evidently possessing one of the top defenses in the league; their future matchup will be intriguing to watch against premier offenses; their defense must perform like this or risk becoming irrelevant against such powerhouses as Houston or Arizona; should it remain effective, they have an opportunity at making a deep playoff run.
Kareem Hunt – AFC Offensive Player of the Month
Trevor Lawrence ran for two touchdowns – including a game-winning 1-yarder with 23 seconds remaining – as the Jaguars outgained the Chiefs by over 150 total yards, in an exciting high-stakes thriller.
The result forever altered NFL dynamics by signaling an important shift in power balance. But how did Jacksonville do it? Our analysis revealed that their aggressive defensive strategy kept Mahomes under wraps.
Cook has already amassed 1,034 total scrimmage yards (436 rushing, 89 receiving) and six touchdowns in his first four games this season, ranking third among running backs in terms of average rushing average at 5.6. He has run for 100 or more yards in four out of his five games so far while also leading all running backs with 54 receptions this year.
After an impressive preseason performance, rookie wideout Devan Smith-Njigba has met all expectations. Over his past three games he has recorded at least 10 catches and 100 yards each time; earning himself consideration as AFC Offensive Player of the Month.
Even amid all of their injuries this season, Smith-Njigba remains productive. He currently holds the record in terms of receptions in eight weeks of play with 24 catches for 800 yards – setting himself up to surpass his career-best mark of 93 receptions by 2021.
After an uneven start to 2018, Achane has seen his performances improve significantly over the past week. He rushed for 136 yards on 22 carries against the Saints and caught seven passes for 87 yards against the Vikings, with Achane placing fourth overall in terms of attempts (1 186) and yards gained (1 1034), second best among NFL running backs at an average 6.1 average; on track to become first since Shaun Alexander back in 2005 to gain over 1,000 rushing yards through four games played this season.
Patrick Mahomes – AFC Offensive Player of the Week
Jeffri Chadiha highlights eight winners and losers from Sunday’s game between Jaguars and Chiefs that resulted in their dominance, including Patrick Mahomes taking an important step backwards.
Kansas City Chiefs’ offense still managed to score plenty of points despite struggling in the red zone, yet one crucial mistake in the fourth quarter proved catastrophic for them: Kansas City failed to convert their fake field goal attempt and thus gave away the game as it resulted in an unexpected turnover that ultimately cost them.
Patrick Mahomes scored four touchdowns during a loss to the Chargers on Monday night – marking his first time scoring multiple rushing and passing touchdowns simultaneously, becoming only the third-youngest player ever. Mahomes also broke the Chiefs single-season touchdown pass record; now having 41 career postseason touchdown passes.
Mahomes was sacked twice and intercepted once in his second start of the season, throwing for 318 yards but failing to score on any rushing attempt for the first time this season. Furthermore, these were his most sacks ever in any single game in his career.
Mahomes has started 18 career regular season and playoff games for the Chiefs – fifth-most ever in franchise history – earning 15-3 victories while setting an NFL postseason passer rating record with his 105.8 passer rating.
The Chiefs offensive line found themselves struggling under pressure from the Jaguars’ defense, which managed to sack Patrick Mahomes twice in just the first half alone.
Mahomes will have one last opportunity to redeem himself against the Jaguars during a Week 17 matchup at EverBank Stadium. This rematch marks one of their last chances at earning playoff berths, and could decide who finishes first place in the AFC West. Fox Sports in North America and Sky Sports Canada will both provide coverage.
Travis Kelce – AFC Offensive Player of the Month
Jacksonville’s stunning win against Kansas City on Thursday’s AFC matchup sent shockwaves through the NFL. Devin Lloyd’s 99-yard pick-six was an amazing feat that deflated their momentum while also shifting power balance in the AFC for 2026 season. But it was Travis Kelce who stole the show, becoming first tight end ever to earn multiple AFC Offensive Player of Week awards – an indication of greatness that has yet to wane!
He caught six passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns against the Chargers, including what would have been a game-winning 17-yard reception with less than one minute left in overtime. That performance marked his third consecutive 100-yard receiving game – shattering records held by Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Shannon Sharpe and Alge Crumpler. Furthermore, he became the first tight end in franchise history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards six consecutive seasons – joining Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham among others.
Kelce set a Super Bowl receiving touchdown record of 105 yards against the Jaguars to set an all-time record for tight ends in Super Bowl history and broke PFHOF Jerry Rice’s eight touchdown mark for receiving tight ends in one Super Bowl game. Additionally, he joined former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald as one of only two players ever with three consecutive postseason 100+ receiving yard games.
He recorded two touchdown catches – a 10-yarder on the game’s opening drive and a 2-yarder in the second quarter that completed a nine-play, 97-yard drive – during Lawrence’s final drive of 33 yards to Brian Thomas Jr. and 13 to Dyami Brown respectively (Johnson’s pass interference penalty on Chamarri Conner gave Lawrence first-and-goal at 1-yard line on this play).
But the Chiefs may have to play without Kelce for Sunday’s matchup against Pittsburgh, after he landed on the NFL’s COVID-19 list and failed to clear it on time.
