Caleb Williams remains on pace for an outstanding sophomore campaign under Bears head coach Ben Johnson, despite an uneventful opening week of play. The rookie quarterback has made great strides as part of a starting role so long as mistakes and injuries remain limited and remain healthy – and has already led the Bears to an unexpected 5-1 start!

Williams excelled in the second quarter when he connected with wide receiver DJ Moore for a 25-yard touchdown pass and opened up a 17-3 lead. Later that quarter, running back Kyle Monangai managed to break free for a 1-yard run, giving the Bears more advantage.

Vikings cut Bears lead to 13-10 in the third quarter before Chicago responded with two touchdowns, a field goal and an interception by safety Kevin Byard and cornerback Nahshon Wright on back-to-back possessions late in the second half. These picks increased Bears turnover margin to an NFL-leading plus-16 with 22 takeaways against six giveaways.

In the fourth quarter, Minnesota attempted to use an onside kick as they attempted a comeback, only for it to be recovered by Bears linebacker Zackary Bowman and add more points by having wide receiver Jordan Addison catch a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chase Daniel. Though Vikings rallied hard late on in this game, but in the end it went in favor of Bears 31-30.

It was the Bears’ first season series sweep against the Vikings since 1968 and ended their 11-game home division winning streak, marking their largest win against them since 1968.

Due to ongoing renovations at Soldier Field, this game was held at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis as their inaugural game ever there; they will return home for their next contest with Green Bay Packers scheduled on Fox Sports 1 later in September.

This week, the Minnesota Vikings gave kicker Blair Walsh tryouts but ultimately decided to keep him on their roster. While he missed some attempts in the first half, he hit all of his extra point attempts and then scored an overtime field goal that helped seal their 26-20 victory against Washington on Sunday and keep their playoff hopes alive.

On Monday Night Football in 2008, when these teams met, the Bears were leading 17-6 when quarterback Kyle Orton was injured and had to be replaced. Mike Ditka convinced Jim McMahon to step in, who promptly threw Visanthe Shiancoe a touchdown pass for an additional 23-7 lead with only minutes remaining in the game.

But then the Vikings launched an impressive drive that culminated with Darren Sproles scoring on an 11-yard run and two-point conversion, sealing their victory with one minute left and an attempted comeback by Chicago; but Zackary Bowman blocked their field goal kick, returning it for Jamari Lattimore to return it and seal victory for Minnesota.

This game had one of the most baffling finishes ever witnessed in NFL history. The Bears were leading 27-16 with less than a minute remaining when, due to a botched punt by Minnesota, they got possession back at their own 46 after an improper punt by them and drove down towards Vikings 30-yard line where they could tie score with just 1 minute remaining but Caleb Williams threw an interception that safety Ihmir Smith-Marsette caught for their opponent and won them the game!

After the game, coach Mike Zimmer was happy with his team’s performance but did not feel it was sufficient to secure them a first-round bye in the playoffs. He noted Adrian Peterson has run for more than 100 yards in four of his last five games; also applauding their defense effort which limited Russell Wilson to only 237 passing yards passing.
