Jonas Valanciunas

Jonas Valanciunas scored 23 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets defeated Oklahoma City Thunder 127-107 Friday night, without starting their usual lineups to rest them ahead of Sunday’s matchup against San Antonio; these results put Denver tied with San Antonio for third seed in Western Conference playoffs if Los Angeles lose to Utah at home or they win outright over San Antonio in Colorado.

Due to injuries sustained by Isaiah Joe (left knee soreness), Ajay Mitchell (left ankle injury management), Thomas Sorber (low back spasms), and Cason Wallace (right leg injury management), Oklahoma’s bench was drastically diminished.

Payton Sandfort played 28 minutes as their primary reserve contributor but was unable to make up the difference created by Denver’s deep rotation throughout the game.

The Nuggets were sharper and hungrier from the opening tip, dominating OKC with their superior shooting and interior dominance to make any comeback attempt difficult. Their cold perimeter shooting contributed further to their crushing defeat as 44 of 89 three-point attempts went unconverted by them.

Even with Valanciunas’ brilliant performance, the Nuggets were able to rally from an early deficit with a 21-5 run beginning the fourth quarter, led by Julian Strawther’s 22 points and David Roddy’s 21-point contribution off the bench.

Valanciunas showed his opportunistic playmaking and ability to get inside the paint against a Thunder team known for having an inconsistent defense, even while making many turnovers and miscues that should have been expected from someone thrust into such a prominent facilitating role.

Although his return is certainly promising, he must work on his ball handling skills and consistency before returning as a starter – his efforts against Thunder are nevertheless encouraging and set him up perfectly for making an impactful playoff push.

Julian Straw

Jonas Valanciunas led the Denver Nuggets to a 127-107 win against Oklahoma City Thunder, while Julian Strawther added 22 points – hitting four of seven three-point attempts – while maintaining their No. 4 seed in Western Conference playoffs.

From the opening tip, Denver was clearly the more formidable team and its depth made it difficult for Oklahoma City Thunder to mount any serious comeback effort.

Meanwhile, OKC struggled to find any offensive rhythm due to cold perimeter shooting which became an ongoing problem throughout the game.

With Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, Ajay Mitchell and Jaylin Williams all being sidelined with injuries, Oklahoma’s bench options were severely limited. Payton Sandfort played 28 minutes but wasn’t enough to offset Denver’s deep roster of scorers throughout the night.

Julian Strawther emerged as a top-tier prospect while attending Liberty High School, earning First Team All-WCC honors as a junior and being honored on the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup All Tournament Team. Later committing to Gonzaga University he quickly established himself as an essential contributor.

During his sophomore year he averaged 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game to help the Bulldogs to their No 2 overall ranking in 2023 NBA Draft. In 2025-26 season he made his first professional debut and quickly established himself within Denver Nuggets rotation as part of this year.

David Roddy

Jonas Valanciunas recorded a career-high 23 points and Julian Strawther scored 22 in helping Denver edge Oklahoma City Thunder 127-107 Friday. With their starters rested and deep bench playmaking it difficult for Oklahoma City’s shorthanded squad to find any offensive momentum, Denver had enough depth on bench to overwhelm Oklahoma City in this one-sided matchup.

The Nuggets executed their game plan efficiently with 28 assists on 47 field goals and held OKC to an ineffective shooting clip of 42.4% on two and three point attempts (31.8% overall).

OKC struggled to generate second chance points against Denver’s physical frontcourt; furthermore, their subpar perimeter shooting in the fourth quarter contributed significantly to their inability to close an 18-point deficit.

Lu Dort was the only Thunder starter who played more than 20 minutes and finished with five points and one assist. Payton Sandfort served as Oklahoma City’s primary reserve contributor, scoring eight points; unfortunately he couldn’t keep pace with Denver’s balanced rotation.

Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, Ajay Mitchell, Jaylin Williams’ absences were major factors in this game and will impede Oklahoma City’s playoff prospects going forward; they may yet find redemption when hosting Orlando Magic on Tuesday.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the NBA’s reigning scoring leader, led his team to an exciting win against Denver that was much closer than its final score indicated.

SGA is fast becoming a star, making this season one of the league’s most thrilling young talents and an outstanding performer – but his impact goes well beyond points; he represents international stars who continue their rise into American basketball while simultaneously providing insight into sports’ impactful intersection between immigration and social justice.

Though missing four key players, the Thunder were still able to remain within striking distance of the Nuggets for much of this game.

However, their cold shooting night and lack of bench rotation left no hope of recovery and ultimately resulted in a lopsided loss by Denver who controlled both paint space and shot efficiently from outside.

Jonas Valanciunas and Julian Straw both scored double digits for Denver, but it was really the contribution from its reserves that powered them to victory. Players like David Roddy, Jalen Pickett and Curtis Jones kept the offense moving even while starters took turns sitting out, giving Denver an advantage of depth that couldn’t be matched by OKC on this night.

Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, Ajay Mitchell and Jaylin Williams all missed time due to injuries for Oklahoma City Thunder.

Payton Sandfort played 28 minutes and scored 8 points but that wasn’t enough to compensate for Denver’s deep rotation that created an ongoing deficit; neither could second chance points be manufactured nor were 3-point attempts missed due to tight defense from Thunder.
