India vs. South Africa

South Africa was victorious against India at Guwahati Test for their biggest victory ever in India’s Test history. South African bowlers were prepared and presented all manner of challenges to Indian batsmen with timely strikes from Proteas bowlers.

While top order batsmen largely kept quiet with regards to scoring runs, middle to lower order Indian players excelled with regards to hitting sixes – Rohit Sharma even breaking Shahid Afridi’s 15 year-old record of hitting most sixes per innings by hitting most sixes in an innings along with KL Rahul in making up century stands between them both.

India found themselves struggling at first and were 11/3 at one stage, before Marco Jansen scored an amazing century and Matthew Breetzke made a steady half-century to enable an extraordinary comeback and take India all the way up to 332/6 in their run chase.

Abhishek Sharma attempted a powerful standing lap shot, only to spoon it to Corbin Bosch and end up spooning it to him for an easy catch. Prior to being dismissed he had reached 30 off 38 balls; KL Rahul soon thereafter unleashed an outright drive for six!

Early, Ishan Kishan was caught at deep square leg by Ryan Rickelton off Aiden Markram before AB de Villiers hit Hardik Pandya for four and six runs within one over of Aiden Markram’s bowling.

Chakravarthy started off the over with a no-ball before David Miller hit an 11-run over after smashing a six wide of long-on. Chakravarthy leaked 17 runs off his final delivery for five wickets; Jasprit Bumrah is the only other Indian bowler with more than 50 T20I wickets for their country.

1st ODI

South Africa defeated India in Ranchi by 17 runs to take an unassailable advantage in their 3-match ODI series. India made late chargebacks, but could not catch up. Virat Kohli made an impressionful century off just over 100 balls while wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant scored an equally quick fifty off 43 deliveries.

The hosts dominated the Powerplay, quickly racing towards a total of 209-7. Irish opener Sarah Forbes contributed 42 off 71 balls; however, South African bowling proved effective enough in both innings to limit them to below-par totals.

Home side India had an excellent start to their second innings, only losing two wickets within six overs of playing their second innings.

Although they appeared well-positioned for victory, Proteas slowly chipped away at their score before Temba Bavuma was finally dismissed by Prasidh Krishna with an accurate short delivery to Harshit Rana at backward square leg courtesy of Prasidh Krishna’s short ball delivery.

Tilak Varma made an incredible catch that saved India five runs! India struggled in their middle overs, struggling to gain momentum; but, during their penultimate over, they managed to hit four fours and sixes to increase momentum again and secure victory!

2nd ODI

Indian wickets tumbled like dominoes toward the end, as India lost wickets quickly in pursuit of victory. They needed Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube to be their match-winners but it wasn’t to be; South Africa held firm and triumphed by four wickets to square the series at 1-1.

KL Rahul made history yesterday when he completed back-to-back fiftys! On the first ball of each over, he hit Lungi Ngidi for a boundary through mid-wicket before smashing a six and four on three separate deliveries in three consecutive overs – this amazing Indian all-rounder had one incredible series; reaching his latest 50 off just 59 deliveries!

Quinton de Kock makes history! He becomes only the seventh batsman ever to amass 13,000 international runs, surpassing Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to take joint second place on that list. Additionally, Quinton now equals Sachin Tendulkar for most ODI centuries made, scoring his seventh against India!

South Africa have taken control of this match and their asking rate has now exceeded 13. India must acquire wickets quickly or risk being in trouble if their top order doesn’t play well.

Harshit Rana bowled an outstanding over, conceding only two runs from it and taking out both Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh within seconds – with Rinku Singh handing over an easy catch at long-on.

Kuldeep Yadav struck again when David Miller mistimed a footwork shot and it struck his pad, prompting the umpire to raise their finger for leg before wicket (LBW). Miller took recourse, but his appeals failed despite all efforts on his behalf.

3rd ODI

After India’s disappointing batting performance, South African bowlers managed to put an end to India’s momentum and drag them back into trouble.

Siraj dismissed Head in the last over of the first powerplay while spinners Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana kept things tight while Jasprit Bumrah struck twice and Arshdeep Singh took one wicket each to keep Indian batsmen under control.

The last 10 overs of an ODI are known as the ‘powerplay’ overs, during which teams bowling must use only attacking fields to prevent their opponents from employing defensive strategies that give them an unfair advantage.

Indian bowlers have struggled to contain South Africa’s batsmen. Keshav Maharaj made two quick breakthroughs to stop India’s momentum by dismissing Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh within three balls, followed by Arshdeep Singh for a third success – taking three wickets on this occasion to complete his hat-trick!

Shivam Dube was given the ball for this over and ended up conceding 15 runs, including fours from Dewald Brevis and sixes over long-on from a spinner.

India’s chase got off to a disastrous start when Rohit Sharma fell for a duck off the very first delivery of their innings, sending shockwaves through their hosts as Bhuvneshwar Kumar took swift revenge by dismissing Shikhar Dhawan and Kuldeep Yadav quickly afterward.

Virat Kohli was soon caught off a no-ball by Aiden Markram after making a stunning full-length diving catch at point, signalling their defeat at this game; another win could have saved them against whitewash but will have to wait until their fourth match before having another go at it in this series whitewashed defeat is possible.

4th ODI

India struggled to a subpar total in Guwahati and will rue not having prepared better for conditions in Guwahati. South African bowlers proved unflappable as they managed their chase of 293 runs without panicking during South Africa’s pursuit; Indian batters failed to respect the pitch and were punished accordingly; Rohit Sharma finished up playing one of the shortest innings ever seen in an ODI match – making history by becoming its youngest ever innings player ever!

India are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their target, and need more quick wickets as soon as possible. Keshav Maharaj bowled an outstanding triple-wicket over, dismissing Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh and Arshdeep Singh in one over. India now face an enormous deficit.

David Miller is on track to complete his century in this match and beat Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most successful run chases for South Africa. A six over extra cover helped him achieve this, though not many runs came his way in that over.

Shivam Dube smashes the first ball from Lungi Ngidi for six, but his innings falters as he can only manage a single off the next delivery – leaving him on 34 from 37 balls and likely being dismissed shortly by South African fielders.

India began their final over with two singles from Jasprit Bumrah’s short delivery that went for four runs as Indian batsmen failed to read it correctly. This proved devastatingly costly for India as they now must try and avoid defeat in order to have any chance at survival.
