1. Cade Cunningham
Cade Cunningham excels on Madison Square Garden. That was evident during Detroit’s 123-104 win in Game 2 on Sunday when Cunningham scored 41 points, distributed 10 assists, collected two steals-plus-blocks and limited the Knicks offense to 51.9% field shooting and 37.8% three pointers made.
Cunningham easily made his way around each defender that the Knicks could throw his way, such as OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and new addition Jeremy Sochan.
Additionally, he caused havoc in the paint for their best big men and caused much discomfort within their ranks.
The Pistons made waves by dominating New York in their season series and winning all four games without their top center or power forward due to injury – only further underscoring Cunningham’s significance as an asset for Detroit in their rotation.
He’s currently making headlines by becoming an MVP candidate, though that wasn’t an aim when speaking to ESPN preseason about winning an MVP Award; rather it would come naturally due to their team’s success.
He’s well on his way towards an outstanding finish in regular season play and will become even more valuable asset leading his teammates forward come playoff time and beyond!
3. Jalen Brunson
Jalen Marquis Brunson is an American professional basketball player currently representing the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
A point guard, Brunson was selected with the 33rd pick overall in round two of 2018 NBA draft by Dallas Mavericks.
Prior to that he won two national championships playing college ball for Villanova where he was honored as NCAA national player of year as well as Bob Cousy Award recipient as junior.
Additionally he represented United States at 2014 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship and 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Cup competitions where he achieved gold medal.
Brunson was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. His father Rick Brunson is a former NBA player and current assistant coach with the Knicks.
Brunson attended Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire Illinois where he led their basketball team to its inaugural Illinois High School Association Class 4A state title win in 2015.
Additionally he participated in both Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoop Summit tournaments.
Brunson began playing point guard for Villanova during 2017-18 season. He averaged 18.9 points, 4.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game while earning him both John Wooden Award and Naismith Award as nation’s top men’s college basketball player.
4. Miles McBride
Miles McBride hasn’t had much of an impact in his time with the Knicks this season, struggling with scoring and being nonexistent on defense.
But in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series against Atlanta Hawks he scored 26 points while playing excellent point-of-attack defense on C.J. McCollum and Nickeil Alexander-Walker – finally showing us something.
5. Mikal Bridges
Bridges was selected with the 10th pick in the 2018 NBA draft by Philadelphia 76ers and then traded to Phoenix Suns later that season, where he became one of their rookies to record one steal in every game played as well as hitting on 45% of his 3-point attempts this year. Bridges remains one of the more underrated players in NBA, being instrumental in helping guide Phoenix Suns playoff run in 2021.
