Tight Ends
Steelers pass catchers will be put through their paces all afternoon by Darrelle Revis and Jalen Wilson, two second-year cornerbacks of New York’s secondary.
Both Darrelle Revis and Jalen Wilson will face challenges in trying to match up against two talented tight ends during a new era for New York’s secondary.
After being penalized on their opening play of the third quarter, Pittsburgh continued its drive downfield with consecutive running plays to move into scoring position.
TE Jonnu Smith ran for first downs on 10- and 11-yard carries to bring them within Cleveland 42-yard line; on subsequent play Jaylen Warren got stuffed for first down, but their drive continued nonetheless;
Chris Boswell kicked a 31-yard field goal to bring Pittsburgh within striking distance at 9-3 at end of third quarter.
Both teams had field goals in the fourth quarter. The Jets took the lead on a 5-yard touchdown run by rookie RB Lamar Miller before the Steelers responded with one from TE Connor Heyward for a 1-yard score to tie things at 7-7 with just under two minutes remaining in play. Wide Receivers
DK Metcalf stands out in this matchup as a result of his new, lucrative contract from the Jets this offseason. He’ll likely face off against CB Sauce Gardner for most man-to-man snaps; both players possess strong chemistry that allows them to limit each other’s production; it may come down to who is more adept at reading coverage and making adjustments than their opponent.
Metcalf was fourth in deep target rate last season, covering at least 20 yards downfield on 31.5 percent of his routes. Additionally, he tied for eighth in career receiving touchdowns with 48 in six seasons.
Metcalf was targeted on a lower percentage of his routes when aligned out wide (21.1%) than when placed inside (19.1%). He has an outstanding track record against man-to-man coverage; over the past two years, he’s allowed only one reception per game.
Calvin Austin will have much to prove in his second season with the team. Although he ranked 10th for target share among wide receivers last season, he struggled in red zone situations and averaged only 4.8 receptions per game – well below his career average of 6.
Luckily he shares an excellent relationship with Jermaine Gresham from tight end and can expect plenty of targets on short and deep routes alike.
Justin Fields made an immediate impact during his rookie year with the Steelers. He amassed more than 200 yards in three of 10 starts and averaged 7.8 yards per pass attempt on average.
But facing off against New York could prove much tougher; they allow an astonishing average first down play-rate of 4.9 yards per play while only five teams allowed higher third-down rates than them.
In the first quarter, both teams traded possessions. Running Backs

The Pittsburgh Steelers tied Minnesota for league leadership with 33 takeaways. They were also tied with Buffalo for most fumble recoveries, which will be interesting to observe after giving away many free points early in the season.
Their defense must improve at stopping runs more effectively while finding consistency with pass rushes led by Quinnen Williams and Lavonte David up front.
Offensive Tackles
Fields was an accomplished passer for the Steelers during his time there, though his accuracy suffered at times. Opposing defenses swatted away his passes on 2.5% of targets (the highest percentage in NFL last season).
Due to these poor completion rates, Justin Fields made several errors including four interceptions and seven fumble losses which contributed to an error-laden season for him and led to costly plays with multiple interceptions and lost fumbles that may never recover from.
