Toronto Blue Jays Vs New York Yankees Match Player Stats

The Yankees brought only half their lineup to Dunedin for this tournament. So while these stats might not fully represent their season as a whole, still getting 3 hits against Toronto pitchers was certainly impressive.

Cody Ponce started the game and pitched like an ace: five and two-thirds innings pitched with one hit allowed, zero walks allowed, and five strikeouts, making a strong impact in the Toronto Blue Jays Vs New York Yankees Match Player Stats. Ponce inked a lucrative contract this offseason that has proven itself worth his while thus far.

Cody Ponce

Cody Ponce of the Blue Jays outhit and outpitched his counterparts from the Yankees in this game, yet one individual stood out more than others:

Cody Ponce started the game looking like an ace as he pitched five and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball allowing only one hit without walks while striking out five batters. Ponce has proven himself capable of transitioning well from KBO MVP status into MLB competition.

Ponce had only one hitch in his record when Amed Rosario managed to chop a ball off of third base for an infield single; but that was an isolated incident compared with his overwhelming performance:

Ponce retired nine batters before Rosario made contact, featuring fastball speeds up to 96.5mph as well as an effective changeup and curveball that kept batters at bay.

Though his strikeout rate may not match up to that of Korean leagues, Lee remains an interesting arm in deep mixed leagues.

After winning the KBO MVP award, he inked a three-year contract with Toronto in December and should feature prominently this season in their starting rotation.

George Springer made himself known on the offensive side for the Blue Jays with two memorable hits – one off Ryan Weathers in the fourth inning and another versus Cade Winquest in the fifth, giving his spring average an increase to.442.

Daulton Varsho and Amed Rosario both recorded two hits for the Yankees, though Rosario left after suffering dislocated thumb due to being struck by Jaime Garcia’s pitch and possibly necessitating an outside pitcher until his return. If necessary, veteran pitchers may need to step in until his recovery process completes itself.

The Blue Jays still have much at stake this season and require all their regular players to remain healthy. Unfortunately, injuries to Ponce, Jose Berrios (elbow), and Shane Bieber (shoulder) leave them lacking depth on the mound.

George Springer

The Yankees arrived to Dunedin with only part of their roster, yet still managed to lose 11-0 at Toronto pitchers’ hands. Cody Ponce pitched like an ace while George Springer hit a grand slam while they managed only three hits of their own; Ryan Weathers (competing for rotation spot) got rocked hard during this game.

Ponce was not alone among Toronto players in his display on Monday; George Springer was outstanding all day long, hitting balls to all fields with pinpoint accuracy, including his grand slam in the fourth inning which broke open the game.

Daulton Varsho also contributed significantly; going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Other contributors for Toronto included Guerrero, Addison Barger and Varsho – each offering potential threats; New York was still searching for answers after its opener against Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

Daulton Varsho

Daulton Varsho opened up scoring for Toronto in the first inning with a solo homer off New York Yankees starter Ryan Weathers and continued the scoring by hitting two two-run homers off Cade Winquest to extend their lead to 10-0 in the fifth inning. Varsho finished 3-for-3 to raise his spring batting average to.442. Varsho appears different this season – more patient with his approach yet powerful enough that it makes him dangerous.

He also excelled on defense. Although he didn’t prevent any home runs this postseason, he made several putouts – in fact more than any other Blue Jay in these playoffs!

Varsho’s ability to read the ball off the bat sets him apart from other outfielders. At 5-foot-8 with long reach, but moving at light speed when hit by a pitch, his quick reactions allow him to react swiftly – sprinting towards it then slowing as he nears its destination – makes him unmissable! Never missing an opportunity, he never misses a ball.

In the sixth inning, he made two remarkable plays to prevent runs from scoring: first by catching Tommy Edman’s line drive off of the left field wall to prevent one run from scoring; and then by making an amazing diving stop on Ryan Merritt grounder to save another run and preserve one more run from scoring. These were feats which provided hope for the future of baseball.

The Yankees brought a split squad to Dunedin, so it would be unfair to judge them too harshly. Still, a shutout loss can be cause for alarm when your top pitcher gets hit hard. On a positive note for New York however, their young players are showing great promise and there is much excitement in store over the coming years.

Amed Rosario

Amed Rosario was the sole Yankee batter to record a hit against Toronto’s pitching staff. In the fourth inning, he batted one off third base for an infield single that may not have been pretty but nonetheless proved effective. Rosario has performed admirably this spring at bat and could prove vital as an effective utility player this season for New York.

On Friday night in Dunedin, Toronto’s Blue Jays outshone the Yankees 11-0 thanks to an outstanding start by Cody Ponce who allowed only one hit over five and two-thirds scoreless innings while striking out five batters without walking anyone or walking anyone himself. George Springer scored with a grand slam home run while Daulton Varsho scored with his homer as part of their scoring attack.

Due to his left knee sprain, Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette will miss their ALDS matchup against the Yankees and is not expected to return until later this week.

Without him, Toronto faces a difficult decision regarding how they cover for injured pitchers; patchwork rotation won’t suffice as far into playoffs they go; they have options but must make one soon enough if Max Scherzer or Chris Bassitt are also unavailable due to injury issues.
