Deandre Ayton
Deandre Ayton recorded his third double-double of the postseason on Monday against Denver Nuggets, scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds, two blocks and tallying two steals in Game 1.
Originally hailing from Arizona and signed a five-year deal with Lakers this offseason, Ayton has been impressive off the bench this year averaging 11.6 points, 11 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game off the bench this year.
In the opening quarter, Ayton gave Los Angeles an early edge with a floater in the paint and 3-pointer from right corner, giving them a quick lead.
Nikola Jokic responded for Denver with six consecutive points that brought their deficit down to three with just over one minute remaining in the period.
The second quarter was more or less an even matchup between teams as both sides alternated taking and relinquishing control of the lead.
Jaxson Hayes scored on a dunk that caused Denver to call timeout with 7:27 remaining in the half, before Smart hit two threes from distance and Luka scored with his signature move for another lead-changing basket from them Lakers comeback.

Jaxson Hayes
Jaxson Hayes is a 7-foot center who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.
Drafted eighth overall by Atlanta Hawks in 2019, Hayes has proven himself invaluable this season for Los Angeles Lakers’ success, averaging six points and 3.8 rebounds while also providing crucial defensive coverage on a nightly basis.
Following a slow start, the Lakers found their footing in the second quarter with Marcus Smart hitting three 3-pointers and Luka Doncic adding two. As halftime approached, their lead increased significantly to nine.
Second half action was tight with both teams taking turns leading. Denver opened with an aggressive 5-0 run to open the fourth quarter before Los Angeles answered with Reaves’ three and LeBron’s run to lead them back into contention.
Reaves was sent to the line where he made both of his free throw attempts before falling short in this tightly contested contest.
G-Wiz, the Wizards mascot, is suing Lakers forward Jaxson Hayes for shoving him during pregame introductions before their game on Jan 30. G-Wiz’s attorney represents one of Hayes’ former girlfriends’ legal cases against him and seeks unspecified damages.

In the third quarter, both teams exchanged leads. Nikola Jokic gave Denver an initial lead with a 3-pointer from distance before Lakers Hardaway Jr and Cam Johnson hit consecutive 3-pointers for 12-7 lead.
Denver quickly cut into this advantage before Reaves and Jaxson Hayes both hit free throws to tie up the game within less than one minute of playback.
In the fourth quarter, both teams struggled to score. Jamal Murray missed a 3-pointer before Reaves was sent to the free-throw line where he converted both free throws putting LA ahead by two with under a minute remaining. Jokic tied it with 15 seconds left in overtime before Luka hit an open fadeaway jumper to give LA the win.
Luka Doncic

Known by numerous nicknames such as “El Matador,” “Cool Hand,” and “The Don”, Doncic has made himself a fan favorite since joining the Lakers this season.
Denver took the early lead as Nikola Jokic and Rudy Gobert both scored with dunks to give Denver an early edge in the first quarter, but Los Angeles regained control during the second quarter after Marcus Smart hit three-point shot and Aaron Gordon responded with a floater inside of paint for 7-0 run that sent the Lakers into halftime with a significant advantage.
The third period was an exciting back-and-forth battle between both teams, with both sides exhausted as it became hard to predict who would come out on top in the closing minutes.
Jamal Murray turned over the ball and was sent to the free throw line; although his first try went misserly but second attempt saw him convert and give the Lakers a seven-point lead with 1:36 remaining before Austin Reaves scored on a three pointer to tie things up, followed by LeBron James scoring on an off-balance fadeaway jumper to give his team victory and give them victory with an exciting finish of 127-125 win!

Both teams went into overtime in a tight defensive struggle that would prove decisive in the outcome of this matchup. Deandre Ayton provided the first points with a jumper from LA before Denver answered with two from Braun quickly after.
Smart then stole the ball and drove toward the basket for an easy layup with 2:36 left in extra period before McGee made a jumper but was ultimately unable to catch up to Denver and secure victory for himself and Denver.
