Nikola Topic
Before Colorado’s game against Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night, Migos’ “Is You Ready” played over the speakers at Ballentine Arena.
However, only nine of Denver’s regular starters took part – OKC had benched 10 regular-season starters ahead of their top seeded finish in the West – making for a testy and at times heated contest with plenty of pushing and shoving between each side.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who came in to fill in for an injured Jamal Murray in the starting lineup, led Denver with 39 points but could not overcome Oklahoma City’s formidable offensive attack, which featured 19 3-pointers from Cason Wallace alone.
Topic’s playmaking was an impressive strength, though his 21 total turnovers included three unforced errors. If he can maintain this strong start during playoff time, Topic could become an integral member of team’s success.
Nikola Topic, of Serbian nationality, currently plays point guard for Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Standing at 6ft 6in (1.98 m), Topic has missed most of his career due to injuries and testicular cancer treatment; nevertheless despite limited playing time he has shown the ability to lead young teams and play defense/pass protection.
In 2022 he was loaned out to Slovenian club Slodes where he played several ABA League games; earning Rookie of Week honors after averaged 4.2 points/2.6 assists per game! Additionally he has made several national appearances with Serbia.
Lu Dort
Luguentz Dort has been an integral member of the Oklahoma City Thunder this season. As a second-year small forward, he provides secondary scoring, rebounding and solid defense play – as well as shooting two threes or more threes every game for five straight contests! That makes him worth considering on your fantasy roster.
Dort had a quiet performance against the Celtics on Wednesday, yet his three-point shooting helped keep Oklahoma City competitive in its pursuit of first seed in the West. While only shooting 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, he still scored 14 points in 22 minutes of action.
Ball Arena was the scene of an electric battle between Denver and Oklahoma City on Friday, as they battled through overtime in a game which featured multiple technical fouls and an ejection.
Denver decided not to start their starting five, while Oklahoma City rested 10 players after clinching first seed status with two games remaining; neither side could field its typical rosters.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 36 points to lead Oklahoma City past Denver Nuggets 127-121 in overtime in an intense match that saw both teams field nine players each.
Oklahoma City forward Lu Dort was ejected after making contact with Denver center Nikola Jokic that caused a scrum near the basket and led to technical fouls on both teams; though technical fouls weren’t assessed against either.
Jamal Murray
Murray hails from Kitchener, Ontario in Canada and currently plays for the Denver Nuggets in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Drafted seventh overall by Denver in 2016, Murray has also represented Team Canada at international basketball competitions and led his team’s regular and playoff scoring this year with 43 points against Clippers during Game 5 in second round series; making six 40 point games total; a record-setting amount in franchise history! In recent games he averages 29 points with 6.8 rebounds per game!
Murray set a franchise record and became just the ninth Canadian ever to score 50+ in an NBA playoff game, shooting 17-for-26 from the field with eight 3-pointers, adding five rebounds and seven assists for 39 minutes of playback action.
Nikola Jokic
Jokic is the Nuggets’ most valuable player. The center averages 10.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists per game this season while also serving as an invaluable defensive presence, scoring inside the paint or blocking shots to help his team win games. Jokic’s presence and impact is crucial to their success and will prove even more significant during playoff play-offs.
Before Friday’s game between Denver and Oklahoma City at Ball Arena, their players could be seen running onto the court to Migos’ “Is You Ready,” yet only nine suited up as nine of their usual starters decided against starting this penultimate regular-season matchup against OKC who rested some veterans having already secured top seed status in their conference.
Even without Jokic, Jamal Murray and other key Nuggets’ players in their main rotation, Denver still managed to achieve its eighth consecutive win. Their offense has been impressive over recent weeks – scoring at least 107 points in each game over that stretch.
Bench players were crucial in helping their team fend off Oklahoma City. Nikola Topic scored 18 points and distributed 11 assists while Lu Dort made his second game back from injury an invaluable one, helping his team take an initial 67-57 lead before Oklahoma City closed out the period with an 8-0 run to take 62-55 advantage at halftime.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace hit multiple 3-pointers to help Oklahoma City take an initial 77-69 lead before physical play erupted during a physical fourth quarter between both teams, leading to several technical fouls being issued against one another and ultimately an ejection for Oklahoma City’s Lu Dort from Jokic’s technical foul that resulted in Jokic being kicked out.
The Thunder have an excellent chance at landing one of the top three seeds in the West if they win their remaining two games and hope San Antonio drops one; otherwise they would secure home court advantage for round one of playoffs.
