India managed to recover from a loss in the opening Test and make significant strides towards winning the series.
Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain ever to win 100 Tests in Australia; as well as being honored with a Man of the Match award for his outstanding innings during this second match.
Rohit Sharma may be an exceptional white ball batsman, but test cricket does not appear to be his forte.
The Mumbai batsman has often shown inconsistency in his decision making and frequently found himself without ideas when facing critical situations; MS Dhoni himself had spoken out against this behaviour and is likely to receive similar criticism in future media reports as well.
Indian bowlers were able to collect several key wickets in the opening match and will look to maintain this strong performance throughout.
T Natarajan has replaced Umesh Yadav while Washington Sundar made his debut for India. Unfortunately Ravindra Jadeja will miss this series due to a dislocated thumb and will therefore not travel with the team to Australia.
After an inauspicious start with the bat, India rallied behind Rahane and Pujara’s determined batting, striking back with a 148-run partnership before Rahane was caught at short leg by Wade off Hazlewood in the 89th over. Pant made a brilliant century before India reached 309/6 at stumps.
India faced an important test on Sunday as they attempted to breach Gabba and win their first Test since 2023 in Gabba. Rishabh Pant was also making his comeback after suffering injuries in a devastating car crash back in December 2022.
India had an inauspicious start to day three of the Brisbane Test as they quickly succumbed to Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris for two early wickets before taking control again through a rally led by Kohli, Rahane and Pujara who ensured their hosts weren’t overwhelmed by defeat.
Kohli came close to scoring his maiden double century on Wednesday but fell just short when caught at gully by Green off Cummins’ bowling in the 23rd over, before being bowled by Starc in 28th over and Rahane edgeing it towards gully off Starc’s delivery in 30th over.
Pant, on the other hand, continued his impressive run by becoming the fastest Indian player ever to amass 1000 ODI runs in just 16 innings – an average of 62 runs over all his innings – becoming just the fifth Indian batsman to achieve this milestone and will look to add even more in his remaining four matches against South Africa.
South Africa: Aiden Markram (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Ryan Rickelton, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller
The Proteas represent South Africa in international cricket. One of the most successful ODI teams ever, they have won more than 60 percent of their matches and various tournaments such as Champions Trophy 1998 and Commonwealth Games 1998 where they even secured gold medals! Currently ranked second by ICC Test and ODI rankings.
Success of South Africa cricket team can be attributed to its powerful fast bowling unit, including Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada and Shaun Pollock. Furthermore, an excellent group of batters led by AB de Villiers also contribute to success on the pitch.
Unfortunately, off-field issues have limited the country’s potential in cricket; Cricket South Africa (CSA), has recently gone through several CEO changes as it embarks on an in-depth Social Justice and Nation-Building process in an effort to address racism within cricket.
South Africa held its inaugural Test match against an English cricket team at Port Elizabeth in 1889, led by Owen Dunell on behalf of South Africa.
Although both games count as official Test matches today, neither were designated such until South Africa joined Imperial Cricket Conference membership in 1906.
South African cricket team struggled during its apartheid years due to restrictions placed upon player movement, yet eventually over time improved to become one of the premier international cricketing powers by the early 20th century.
By 1960s however, South Africa’s policy of apartheid was brought into question and international cricket body the International Cricket Council issued an international ban against South Africa.
South Africa has experienced great on-field success since, particularly during the early 2000s when they produced several outstanding batsmen such as AB de Villiers.
More recently, however, their cricket team has enjoyed an extended period of consolidation that culminated in fourth place finish at 2017 ICC World Cup tournament.
The Proteas play their home matches at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. This venue takes its name from Afrikaans for “lion’s den”, reflecting the sound of crowd cheering that can be heard throughout the ground.
Macron provides their shirts for these matches; each shirt displays the King Protea badge on the left breast, and they wear green sun hats featuring the CSA logo inscribed around its middle; previously these caps featured United Cricket Board of South Africa badge; this was changed in 1996 with one featuring an emblem depicting springbok antelopes around a circle and featuring capital letters for name of cricket board and cricket board of South Africa badge which also featured capital letters for name of cricket board in capital letters for both this team including wicketkeeper-batsmen-fielders!
Bowlers
The South Africa national cricket team represents South Africa internationally in international cricket. Based out of Cape Town in Western Cape, they play Test cricket wearing flannel shirts; limited overs cricket in green jerseys with yellow patches (the colour yellow being South Africa’s secondary colour); Twenty20 internationals in blue; they are members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and hold numerous records including winning more ODIs, T20Is and Test matches than any other nation combined as well as other accolades.
The Proteas currently rank second in the world and possess an outstanding record against India at home, winning all four Test series and three of five ODIs against them in recent history. But recently they have experienced several setbacks, such as losing star fast bowler Anrich Nortje to a persistent back injury; his replacement, Corbin Bosch is promising young fast bowler but lacks experience at this level of play.
As Nortje remains unavailable, the Proteas have added Lungi Ngidi as cover for him and fellow paceman Kagiso Rabada. Their roster also features spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi as well as left-arm spinner Aiden Markram.
Before facing off against India in a series, South Africa have assembled a formidable side and expect an intense encounter.
Their pace attack includes Ngidi, Rabada, Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder in their ranks; opening batsman Quinton de Kock will look for support at the top of his order from among Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla and Fabian Cowans who possess ample experience at bat.
Even though they have experienced recent difficulties, South Africa still boast an outstanding record against India at home and are considered one of the favorites to win the 2025 Test series. They will also benefit from Faf du Plessis’ return from injury as an added boost.
South Africans will look to capitalize on their victory against New Zealand and make use of it in pursuit of their first Test series whitewash against India since 1985, something which will play an essential role in becoming the top team both for Tests and T20Is.
An upset against the reigning champions would send shockwaves through global cricket and further cement the Proteas’ place as one of the premier teams worldwide. However, defeat could see South Africa fall behind Pakistan in their pursuit of global supremacy.
Victories against arch-rivals as well as victories at major ICC tournaments such as World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy are celebrated with great elation in India; thus it will be fascinating to witness both teams perform during forthcoming Test matches.
